Dr. Ashley Crabtree, Optometrist

Dr. Ashley Crabtree was born and raised in rural South Dakota and graduated from Lake Preston High School. She completed her undergraduate studies at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where she graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Psychology. Following her undergraduate education, she pursued her Doctor of Optometry degree at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois, graduating in 2009.

During her time at the Illinois College of Optometry, Dr. Crabtree gained extensive clinical experience in ocular disease through her rotations at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in downtown Chicago, the Illinois Eye Institute, the Omaha Eye & Laser Surgical Institute, and Offutt Air Force Base.

For the past 15 years, Dr. Crabtree has owned and operated a private optometric practice in Madison, South Dakota. She has extensive experience in medical optometry and provides comprehensive eye care services, including vision correction, glaucoma treatment, management of macular degeneration, foreign body removal, treatment of ocular infections, dry eye management, emergency eye care, co-management of cataract and refractive (LASIK) surgeries, infant and pediatric eye examinations, and specialty contact lens fittings for conditions such as keratoconus.

Dr. Crabtree is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the South Dakota Optometric Society (SDOS). She has served as the SDOS Communications Chair for 12 years and as a member of the Board of Directors for 10 years. In 2016, she was recognized as the South Dakota Young Optometrist of the Year and was elected President of the SDOS in 2024. She especially enjoys working with both elderly and pediatric patients and participates in the InfantSEE program, which provides complimentary vision assessments for infants between six and twelve months of age.

Dr. Crabtree is married to her husband, Casey, and together they have two sons, Casyn and Callan. Outside of the office, she enjoys small-town life with family and friends, spending time on the lake, being outdoors, attending sporting events, and relaxing at home.
